Michele Reynolds of Sew Sweet Vintage makes these wonderful and delicate looking ornaments using small vinyl stencil letters. It’s a lovely way to incorporate inspirational words or perhaps individual names on to ornaments. We think it adds a gorgeous personal touch. You could add one to a gift in place of a name tag, for something that can be treasured year in and year out.
DIY Inspiration Ornaments
By Michele Reynolds
Stencilled Christmas decorations make a chic hostess, bridesmaid or secret Santa gift. ‘Love’ and ‘Joy’ add to the sparkle of these glittery glass ornaments. You can create the perfect personalised, inspirational or commemorative gift in minutes.
You will need:
- clear glass ornaments or glass with a few sparkles as shown in the photos
- cotton cloth
- rubbing alcohol
- cotton swabs
- small, ¼ inch, dauber-style stencil brush – this type of brush has a foam top
- all-purpose stencil craft paint, or craft paint for glass surfaces
- paper plate or palette for paint
- small vinyl stencil letters – vinyl allows your stencil to cling to glass
Instructions:
- Clean glass with soft cloth and rubbing alcohol.
- Place your vinyl lettering onto your ornament, and be sure to centre your letters.
- Using your dauber brush, lightly add craft paint. Less is better to prevent messy edges. If you make a mistake, gently clean edge with damp cotton swab, or remove and start over.
- Allow to completely dry before handling. If you’re in a hurry, you can use a hair dryer to speed up dry time.
- Wrap or hang your sweet inspiration!
