Sweet Living editor Jane Wrigglesworth uses recycled panels, upcycled trellis and a lick of paint (and one handy Dad) to create a new fence top trellis.
Ferocious winds saw the uprooting of a medium sized tree in my backyard. The tree fell onto the boundary fence and broke the trellis topping. Grrr. But instead of throwing it away, I decided to use the pieces that were still intact to make a better and ‘prettier’ version.
Materials used:
1 x Dad
Trellis pieces
Recycled plastic panel screen with leaf design (from Bunnings)
Black metal panel screen with herringbone pattern (from Bunnings)
Resene Lumbersider paint in Element
The Process:

Ugly looking fence, minus its trellis capping at the end.
First things first – the fence is painted in Resene Lumbersider Element. The dark colour is a great backdrop for the green foliage.
Making of the fence top panels using two different screens from Bunnings – this one is a metal screen in a herringbone pattern. Pieces of the original trellis were placed either at each end of each panel, or in the middle, and the original capping was reused. Here, two slats were used in the middle of the panel to form a border.
