How to fray the edges of fabric for effect.
You can make a simple scarf with linen fabric by hemming the two long sides of your fabric then deliberating fraying the unstitched shorter ends to provide a decorative finish.
When fraying on the crosswise grain, it’s a good idea to run a small stitch with your sewing machine along the width of the scarf just above the frayed edge to ensure it doesn’t unravel further. On the lengthwise grain this isn’t necessary as the threads tend to stay in place.
