Make Life Easy

Yum, yum yum! This is a very easy way to make apple crumble, and it’s an especially handy dessert when apples are in season. Obviously you can get apples in supermarkets year-round, but homegrown apples are the bees knees. I typically use cooking apples if I’m baking them in the oven, but for this recipe the sweeter dessert apples are best.

Frying Pan Apple Crumble

Serves 4

Ingredients
3 large dessert apples, chopped (no need to peel)
4 tablespoons butter
Icing (confectioner’s) sugar, for dusting
Maple syrup (optional)

Crumble
100g unsweetened, untoasted muesli (I used Homebrand muesli with seeds and nuts – you can simply use rolled oats if you prefer)
¼ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons desiccated coconut
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

Mix all crumble ingredients together.

Heat two non-stick frying pans over a medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of butter to each pan.

Add the chopped apple to one pan and the crumble mix to the other. Cook both for 3-4 minutes, until the apple is soft and the crumble is lightly golden.

Divide apple into 4 serving bowls and top with crumble. Sprinkle with icing sugar. Drizzle with maple syrup if desired.
