Indian and Middle Eastern recipes often call for ghee (clarified butter). If there’s none on hand you can make your own easily enough in the microwave. Put 150g of butter in a microwave-safe bowl, cook on defrost (30%) for 5-6 minutes or until the butter begins to foam. Scoop out the foam and let the remaining butter (now ghee) stand for five minutes before using.
Do you think you could do it on the stove instead? I live with my sister who believes very strongly that using the microwave kills the food and if very unhealthy.
Hi Gill. Yes, you certainly can make it on the stove top – or in the oven. The idea for using the microwave is that it is very quick. Here’s a link that gives good instructions on making it in the oven or on the stove.
